I have written a lot about Ismael Smith. I admire him as a great draftsman. His favorite subject was The Woman. Dressed and over dressed or naked. Very naked indeed. But now I want to leave for the posterity in this blog the two drawings I consider his worst. The very worst. In conception and execution. I never saw these drawings because they are only known from the two photographs sent to the New York address of Ismael by his old friend from Barcelona Vidal Ventosa mostly famous because he was a great friend of young Picasso. Obviously they are related to the proclamation of the Republic of Spain on April 14 1931 . Sketches for a monument? It seems that Ismael left the drawings with V.V. and then the photographer sent the photos to him. The Republic-woman dressed in a classical robe holds the sickle and the hammer! The communist symbols...Anatema for the American public opinion. The figures are ridiculously extravagant and the execution is poor, very poor. Smith did not signed them. End of the article,
